National Pharmacies Brass Band Competition

Win a spot to play alongside James Morrison and lead the 2022 National Pharmacies Christmas Pageant in an amazing 90-person Brass band!

To honour our 90th anniversary, the National Pharmacies Christmas Pageant will start with a new float celebrating 90 years, surrounded by a 90-person National Pharmacies Brass Band selected, directed and led by legendary jazz musician James Morrison.

Musicians aged 14 and over have the chance to submit an audition videos to secure a spot playing alongside Morrison in the 2022 National Pharmacies Christmas Pageant. In addition to brass instruments, auditions will be accepted from musicians with any instrument that can be played whilst marching.

HOW TO ENTER

1. Download the appropriate music for your instrument from the documents provided below. If yours isn’t specifically mentioned, just use any part that seems in the correct range for you.

2. Learn to play the part at the marked tempo (use a metronome)

3. Record yourself playing the piece with video

4. Upload your recording to a video streaming service such as YouTube or Vimeo and make sure it's uploaded as public or unlisted so we can view the submission!

5. Complete the entry form below and supply the link to your video within the entry form

KEY DATES

Entries open Tuesday 12th July 2022 at 12.00am ACST and closes on Sunday 14 August 2022 at 11.59pm ACST. The winners will be notified on Monday 22^ndAugust 2022.

Entrants must be available to participate in the National Pharmacies Christmas Pageant on Saturday 12th November and attend rehearsals on Monday 17^th October from 6pm – 9pm and Saturday 29^th October from 9am – 1pm.

A MESSAGE FROM THE MUSICAL DIRECTOR - JAMES MORRISON

I’m very excited to be part of the National Pharmacies 90^th Anniversary Christmas Pageant!

I’m also thrilled that you have decided to audition to join me in forming our 90 piece National Pharmacies Brass Band. We’re using the term ‘brass band’ a little loosely here, as I’m happy to have saxophones, clarinets, flutes, strings and just about any instrument that can march and involved too (please check the conditions of entry)

Here’s what you need to do:

I will then listen to all the recordings and choose a band for the Parade 😊

Of course, I need to make sure we get a good mix of instruments (it can’t all be trumpets!), so I may not be able to put everyone in the band who can play the piece. So get your audition in as soon as you’re ready and I hope to be playing with you in the Parade!
