In Australia, there's few things more iconic than Pavlova at Christmas time! This fluffy, sweet dessert is always a feature in many Christmas lunches, and of course often topped with fresh fruits, like strawberries, blueberries, passionfruit and more.
Whether it's chicken, lamb, ham or turkey, a beautiful roast feeds a group better than just about anything! Paired with roasted vegetables or fresh salads, a roast is a wonderful tradition of Christmas cuisine. Don't forget the gravy!
We're certainly unique in Australia, when you compare our Christmas to the traditional white Christmas of the northern hemisphere! But what would Christmas be without joying some beautiful fresh seafood on a warm day? Prawns are a great crowd-pleaser and appetizer, especially if Christmas Day is a particularly hot one! Add a delicious sauce, or just have them with lemon! Yum!
While you can eat it all-year round if you really want to, nothing really beats gingerbread at Christmas time. Whether it's a little gingerbread man, or a whole gingerbread house, biting into a sweet but slightly tangy piece of gingerbread will get you in the Christmas spirit like nothing else!
Add a bit of festive cheer to your snacks and desserts and turn them into Christmas trees! It's as easy as cutting brownies into triangles and covering them with green icing, watermelon into triangles decorated with yogurt as the tinsel, or even going vertical and creating a creative stack of fruits or even gingerbread. Our recommendation? Just search 'christmas tree food' into Pinterest and you'll find some INCREDIBLE ideas for some festival style creations.
One of the indicators that Christmas is coming is seeing Mince Pies pop up in shops and bakeries about the place. It's a classic Christmas snack with a long history, and is a delicious and hearty addition to any Christmas spread!
This classic fruit cake is another much-loved tradition of Christmas time. With delicious fruity flavours, your choice of additions like raisins, currants, sultanas or cherries, and finished off with a classic flavour of rum, brandy or whisky (but careful not to put in too much!). For so many of us it brings back memories of family and childhood, and is one you can reinvent and personalize so easily!
