Port Noarlunga Primary School student, Lolita Casey, aged 7, has taken out honours in the 2018 Credit Union Christmas Pageant Mini-Float Design Competition, beating more than 420 other designs submitted by students from around South Australia.

Lolita’s winning design entry, The Kindness Tree, has been made into a mini float which was unveiled today, all ready to appear in the Credit Union Christmas Pageant on November 10.

Pageant Director Brian Gilbertson congratulated Lolita and all of the other students who entered the competition and said the Pageant has been overwhelmed by the outstanding designs.

“Lolita’s winning design reminds us all, quite simply just to be kind,” he said.

“The competition provides school children around the State the chance to be a part of the magic of the Credit Union Christmas Pageant and is an opportunity to show off their creative talent.”

Young Lolita Casey showed great maturity in the message behind her entry and said that she still can’t believe her entry has won!

“My design is a Christmas Tree that shows love for all people. It has a peace sign and hearts as we all should be kind,” said Lolita Casey.

The mini float competition became an annual contest in 2017, which was previously held every two years and is open to individual students as well as class entries. Since inception in 2007 the Design a Mini Float Competition has attracted more than 2300 entries.

Mr Robert Keogh, Chair, Credit Union Pageant Company, said he was very proud to see so many designs submitted this year.

“The Credit Union Pageant Company congratulates all of the individual students and schools that entered again this year. The number and standard of the entries and effort put into the designs were once again exceptional and made the judge’s decision extremely tough,” Mr Keogh said.

“Lolita’s design has been awarded the honour and privilege of having her design built to appear in this year’s Pageant, $500 donated by the credit unions and a visit to Stardust Castle for a sneak peak,” he said.

All designs in the Mini-Float Competition had to be original and could not include branded signage or characters, such as cartoon characters, or themes from movies or musicals.
