Pageant Day to Celebrate 23 Years of Credit Union Memories

Tomorrow’s Credit Union Christmas Pageant is expected to see more than 300,000 happy, smiling faces seated behind the Blue Honour Line eagerly awaiting the arrival of Father Christmas, as the iconic event celebrates 23 years of credit union memories.

Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment David Ridgway said that the much-loved Credit Union Christmas Pageant was the traditional start to the festive season in South Australia, with the Pageant being the largest parade of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere.

“We are extremely proud of the Credit Union Christmas Pageant and the joy it brings to South Australians as a free community event,” said Minister Ridgway.

“This year’s parade will be extra special as we acknowledge the 23 years we have enjoyed with the credit unions as our naming rights partner.”

Creative Director, Brian Gilbertson said this year’s three new floats, Credit Union Pageant Express, The Gingerbread House and Christmas Shoppe were sure to become crowd favourites.

“The elves at Stardust Castle have been busy this year creating Pageant magic,” said Mr Gilbertson.

“We know the Credit Union Pageant Express will be sure to delight as this handcrafted locomotive, with its dual carriage caboose, stretches 18 metres in length – our longest float ever, you can’t miss it.”

Robert Keogh, Chair, Credit Union Pageant Company said the credit unions were looking forward to a memorable event tomorrow, knowing it will be a spectacular show to celebrate and say ‘thanks for the memories’ to the people of South Australia.

“In one of the State’s most enduring corporate partnerships, People’s Choice Credit Union, Beyond Bank Australia, Credit Union SA and Police Credit Union will mark almost a quarter century of involvement in South Australia’s most iconic community event this year and we are all looking forward to once again spreading Pageant magic throughout the streets of Adelaide for the last time,” said Mr Keogh.

In keeping with the community focus of the event, Camp Quality is this year’s charity partner.  Camp Quality believes every Australian child impacted by cancer – be that their own diagnosis or the diagnosis of someone they love - should have every opportunity to thrive.

“Keep your eye out for our special friends from Camp Quality along the route who will be sharing acts of kindness and collecting for this extremely worthy cause. Feel free to offer a gold coin donation or use their tap and go technology,” said Mr Gilbertson.

The 2018 Credit Union Christmas Pageant will be held on Saturday 10 November. It departs from South Terrace at 9.30am once Sir Edward Hayward’s legendary gold whistle is blown by the directors of the  Credit Union Pageant Company representing the four sponsoring credit unions for the very last time.

The Credit Union Christmas Pageant is owned and managed by the South Australian Tourism Commission on behalf of the South Australian Government and sponsored by four leading credit unions in South Australia – People’s Choice Credit Union, Beyond Bank Australia, Credit Union SA and Police Credit Union.
